What this is

Case in Hand is a documentation and general legal information tool. It records what you tell it, organises it, and shows you law that was read at an official source with the citation and the date it was read.

What it is not

It is not a law firm and it does not give legal advice. It does not choose your claim, does not tell you what to do, does not predict what a court will decide, and does not prepare or help prepare documents to file in a court. This is not a substitute for the advice of an attorney.

Whether a non-lawyer may do a given thing is decided state by state, and several states define practising law broadly enough to include helping someone prepare a court document. This tool stays on the other side of that line by design, not by disclaimer.

You are the author

Everything in your record is written by you. You are responsible for what you record, for the choices you make, and for your own deadlines. The tool can hold a date you enter; it cannot know whether that date is the right one for your case.

Your data

Your record is kept on your device. Accounts, online backup and membership checks are the exceptions, they are optional, and Your data says exactly what each one sends.

Membership

Documenting is free. Membership covers exporting. Prices are on the pricing page. If a membership lapses, your record stays yours and stays on your device: what stops is the export, never access to what you wrote.

No warranty

Law changes, official sites go down, and a statute read on one date can be amended the next. Every citation here carries the date it was read for exactly that reason. Read the source before you rely on it.
