What the provisions read require

• C.C.P., art. 145 — The defendant answers “dans les 15 jours qui suivent”, failing which a default judgment and costs may follow (French text). (LégisQuébec — Code de procédure civile, C-25.01, read on 2026-10-21)
• C.C.P., art. 147 — French text: the answer states the intention “soit de convenir du règlement de l’affaire, soit de contester et d’établir avec le demandeur le protocole de l’instance”, may propose mediation or a settlement conference, names the lawyer if any, and is notified then filed. Time limits read
